Default um i just had a thought

the shifttronic shifter has to be pushed up... how unnatural is that, when i test drove the car i noticed this and thought it was kind of dumb to have to be pushed in stead of pulled, i mean sure u have to push on a normal manual, but the real shifts feel better when pulled, so im wondering why they didnt do it backwards... are they going to change this?

<- wonders if switching some wires around wouldn't change that.

Most manu-matics are like that. Push forward to UP shift, and back to DOWN shift. Pretty much the natural way to do it.

:: sounding like an old fogey ::

the late 80's turbo dodge people used to switch the valve body on their auto tranny to a manual valve body. this was a pretty common mod amoungst the draggers, so you wouldn't worry about tapping up into neutral, you would have P R N 1 2 D. don't have too much details as i had never performed this swap however i've wondered if this could be done to an X3. also, i believe w/ the manual valve body you had to shift in order to drive the car (or it would always stay in D or 2, but not touch 1 unless you put it there). not sure though.

but wytchdr is probably right, you could probably switch the sensors or the section of housing that controls up and downs so it's opposite.

so nobody remembers in the early 90's when dodge had shiftronic on the...I believe stratus....?

instead of up and down...you would go left and right to shift, which made a helluva lot more sense to me. I agree with p2filz that it's messed up the way the do it, but it's not "unnatural feeling"
