Default How do avoid a "Farting" Muffler?

Whats up guys.
Im finally thinking about getting a exhaust for my car just a universal fit exhaust made by Power Tech looks just like the Apexi N1

Anyway around my town i hear lots of imports exhaust making poping and farting sounds when they are around 5-30 mph

I DONT want my car to sound like that..is their any steps i can do to avoid that or is it just somthing wrong with their cars?

Don't buy a cheap crappy muffler and you'll be fine

I think those farting sounds, as you call it, is from the backpressure. I had the same sound before I installed my cat-back with 2.25 pipes. Now it's gone. Sounds like a real sports car now....

I bought a 5 Zigen Fireball universal exhaust and had it installed with 2 1/4" pipe from the cat, and I get the "popping" sound when I let the engine rev down. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this sound? I t`alked to the exhaust guy and he said it was becuase the muffler is straight through. Is there something I can add into the exhaust to provide enough back pressure to stop this "popping" sound? I don't want to invest in a new muffler if possible.

Please help if you can....

so the popping sound is from NOT ENOUGH back pressure? and its caused by ur exhaust being too BIG? for some reason all along i thought it was the other way around..geesh!

i think if you put 2.0" mandrel bent pipe on ur accent it would be ok. cus i think alot of tib guys use 2.25 and not 2.5 on the betas anymore..

A mechanic friend of mine said that that poping noise is basicly from an incomplete burn. In other words, if you upgrade your ignition system then that should eliminate the noise or at least help because you will be burning off more of the exhausted gases.

If you dont want your car to fart just stop using onions as an octane booster lol

Your negative draw is propably a little much, so it's sucking the unburnt fuel/air mixture past the exhaust valves during the overlap duration on your cams, and the heat in the exhaust system is causing it to ignite inside the exhuast system. It's time to downsize the muffler.

..or the whole catback, correct? that would prove the 'catback is too big' theory to be true, by what your saying..

mine did it ALOT when i had a hole in my flexpipe. now it only really does it at low (below 2k) rpms when i let off the gas (which is like never unless i give it a small rev)

Mine does it, his does it, everyone's does it...it isn't hampering your performance, my cat-back is great...and my straight through kevlar muffler has a 4" tip...loud, but sounds very strong...I get a little popping when I am engine braking at times...other than that, I don't really notice it.

You can get a silencer piece that will help with that sound...I took mine out, it does hamper your performance a little.
