Yes. The reason you are throwing a code is because you have two o2 sensors. They are designed to make sure the emissions system is working properly.

The first sensor reads a certain voltage. If all is well with the car, the 2nd sensor should read at a lower voltage. Leaving the 2nd sensor unhooked, or dangling causes the two voltages to be far off, and the car throws a code.

If you do not plan to install the o2 sensor in your header, here is what I suggest:

Install the first o2 sensor as close as you can to the header. Install the o2 sim in place of the second sensor.

You could install the first sensor into the hole for the 2nd, and run the o2 sim. Then you have no welding or installing, but I personally don't like the first o2 sensor being that far away from the head. It changes they way it's read and the way the ECM compensates.

The best way to do any of this is to install the first o2 sensor in the header, and the 2nd after the cat. That's the only way to make everything 100% functional. The o2 sim is a band-aid, and if something does go wrong you won't know.

It may throw off your gas millage and mixture.

More importantly, the CEL light will already be lit, so if something else goes wrong, you are likely not to notice.

Long story short, fix it the right way. Band-aids are half the reason people laugh at Hyundai tuners.

it will hurt performance. take it to a muffler shop and have an o2 bung welded on for the second o2 sensor farther down in the exhaust. if you don't you will like gimp said run rich and hurt your mpg

So I'd have to cut my O2 sensor then re-wire it to go further downthe exhaust past the Cat? That will fix it it though right? i also have an aftermarket cat though. Will that matter?

it shouldn't matter just be sure to have good connections on your splices the computer is very picky and use the same gauge wire for the extensions.

Default Re: o2 sensor....

you guys are wrong, the second o2 sensor WILL NOT affect the engines performance or fuel economy whatsoever.

The first o2 sensor is used to calculate the a/f in closed loop mode, if there is a problem with the first 02 sensor you will have performance/economy issues. The second o2 sensors only function in our vehicles is to test the performance of the catalyst. If it measures below the the tolerence it will throw a cel. the reason its designed like this, is so that if your car doesn't pass emmissions, the shop can use this information to see if the failure was due to the catalyst.
