Default 4G52 block + 4G67 head = DOHC 16V 2.0L Pony?

Why not! Apparently the DOHC 1.8L head fits onto the Stellar block. And what's better, the 1.8L elantra head has higher compression. Also it only cost me $75 for a good head (with no cracks)

Now, I want to do a few crazy things to it: Quad carb, big cams, and headder... for RWD use. I will also shave the head, 5 angle valve job, and portmatch the IM to the carb stack.

Carbs = last (covered)
Cams = EXPENSIVE!!

Does anyone know where I can get some decent cams (used if need be) for a 4G63? Is there a forum for these engines? Like a DSM board or somewhere I can get a good set of cams from?

I can't wait to put this shit in... and if I get bored of it, I know a 4G64 fits. Im gonna do some research and see if a G54B block fits... I know it mates to the pony trans (at which point will probably be upgraded to something else, potentially a Mazda transmission by way of a bellhousing adapter available in 87-88 G54B powered B2600's) but i'm unsure if the head fits. That would be awesome, 2.6L DOHC! Quad Carb!

So that's what i'm doing for the winter... as for cams, why are they so ridiculoustly expensive?

HaHaHa,

I'm a DSM parts whore...

Are you looking for stock 4G63 parts?

Can you ust the 4G64 cams? They're better for your application... or I heard that you can swap in the 4G64 cams into the 63.

DSMtuners
dsmtraders.com

Those are some of it bigger DSM forums, but there's a shit-ton of them everywhere.

Usually 4g5X and 4g6X stuff doesn't cross as its from a different family... Might have more luck with a starion head... or a Mazda B2500 or B2600 head they ran a variant of a 4g5x I think you'll have issues with the cooling jackets.... Not to rain on your parade....

The problem will be finding a decent set of N/A cams for that engine; most of the manufacturers here put out turbo-specific cams because that's the engine that went into the Evo 1-3, as well as the Elantra's and Sonata's.

I don't think it's 4G52... I don't know what it is but it's a stellar 2.0 block. 86stellar says that you can bolt a DOHC to it, which is what he is doing to a 4G64. I know it fits because the block of the Sonata 1.8 (a derivative of 4G63) is almost identical to the Stellar's one. I saved the headgasket off the elantra just to be sure. The only problem I have is that the thermostat housing is in the "back" of the head when it's placed in a RWD configuration... however I am told that changing the housing to that of a SOHC elantra (or talon for that fact, any 4G) will ease clearance issues because it is smaller. I think I have JUST enough room for the current housing, but in case I do not, then... smashie smashie firewall!

In any case, I'm having a hard time finding NA cams...

I think I got a good one here

Because foo, the engines are so well tuned, they produce cold... absolute 0 cold, right to your brain, to the point that one of their mods is an interwarmer, so the operator of the car can have enough cognitive function to eject from the vehicle before it leaves orbit.
