Default Jack Stands?

Damn, I think this question is going to get me killed.

Is there a difference between jack stands and axle stands or are they the same thing, Where do you put them once you jack up the car, and do I need a piece of wood or something flat to distribute the weight over a larger surface.

Be gentle, I brought lube.

Default Re: Jack Stands?

Yes, they would be the same thing and the piece of wood is a good idea if you MUST place the stand somewhere that is likely to cave in (i.e the floor pan). Although I would recomend trying to find a sturdier place to put it first.

Also, make sure the car is left in gear and the parking break is on. Also make sure you choke the wheels properly.
