Is there any way to put a four wheel disc braking system on a 2002 Accent L with the stock 13" rims? I hate having drum brakes on the back wheels cause they are a sonofabitch to work on and I like disc brakes better.

You can swap parts from the Tib but I don't know if you can keep the stock wheels.
Honestly though, how often are you working on your brakes? (since you did say the reason you want to change them is working on them is a pain)
Changing them would be pointless since swapping them is harder then replacing shoes. You can't se them behind stock wheels. And you don't have performance mods that would justify needing better stopping power.

There is supposedly a write up in the works for a swap for our cars. I disagree with Bot though, I like to get the brakes and suspension done before doing mods that will increase hp. That way I have the stopping power and handling already there.

i too HATE working on drum brakes. i for one will probably swap them out for discs when they go bad, i really doubt it would take much longer, and then the next time you change them it will be 1/3 of the hassle and time.
i HATE drum brakes. i worked on them a total of 2 times and never will again.

I agree that stopping power is important but there are other things you can do prior to a brake swap that will bennifit your stopping power a lot more such as better tires. You can't get very good performance tires for a 13" wheel. Also, you can tune your suspension which will make for better stopping power. Upgrading your brakes will do no good if these areas are still week.
In addition to that, most of your stopping power is up front, not in the rear.
So back to my original statement, he still doesn't have enough mods that will give him any benifit from rear disks.

Even though I don't have any mods on my car except for the stereo system (need to be able to make the payments before I spend on mods) I had 4-wheel disc brakes on my old car and I liked them a lot better than drum brakes performance wise and maintenance wise. Autobot had a point that brakes are not something that needs to be worked on a lot, but drum brakes still are a pain in the <fill in word here> to work on when they need to be. I don't know of any other car off hand that still uses drum or front disc/rear drum brakes, so that was kinda boneheaded on Hyundai's part to put that on the Accent.

You would be surprised. Many cars these days still have the disc/drum set up. Hyundai is certainely not unique in that regard. I know what you mean about missing 4 wheel disc. My former car, a 95 Escort GT had 4 wheel disc, and once I upgraded it, that coupled with ABS made it stop on a dime.
I have always done brakes earlier on when moding for several reasons:
A. The way I drive sometimes I heat brakes up pretty quick
B. I feel better knowing that I have the stopping power there
Bot is absolutely right in saying that tires and suspension are equally important, they are. Which is why I do all three of those things first before I get under the hood. It's the long an more expensive way to go I know, but it's my preference. I prefer to see the handling gains before the power gains. Anyway, do what you think is best. After all, it's your car. :

Would it be correct to assume that a converting the stock drums on my '01 Elantra to disc brakes would be as simple as installing the rear brake assembly from an '02 or later GT or an '03 Tiburon? Is there anything to watch out for? Are the parking brake cables the same, or do I need to get these from the donor car also?
