Default Springs

Hello everybody,

I was wondering if I could install lowering springs by H&R or Eibach on my 2001 hyundai accent without having to replace the shocks. Would simple bumperstops save my shocks or would it be better to replace the shocks too.

I was also wondering if anyone happens to know if there are progressive springs for the 2001 hyundai accent???

thnx

Default Re: Springs

Yep it is easy, I would prefer to replace struts, unless they are new or still servicable. If they got alot of miles on them replace them anyways and save headache of having to replace them 300miles later. Pillowball mounts you can replace as well but it is not always nessicary to do, I had one stud come out of my last pillowball mount and had to rig it to stay as I tried to get the strut assembly back onto the car.

Changing springs, (one at a time)
1. jack car up, put on jack stand and take off the wheel.
2. remove brake line clip off the strut assembly
3. remove the 2 bottom bolts on the strut assembly that attach to the wheel hub
4. remove the 3 strut tower bolts and strut assembly should drop down.
5. With the strut assembly outside your car place 2 spring compressors on the spring to release pressure off the top pearch (pillow mount?)
Warning! Spring is under load and could cause serious damage or death if spring compressor failes or operator error occurs.
6. After pressure is relived take off the top bolt that retains the top part of the assembly and take the spring off
Notice! remember the order of the spacer and pillowball mount. (i installed one spring with the spacer in the wrong place and it had the car at factory height with the lowering springs)
7. Relive tension off old springs slowly alternating turns of each spring compressor.
8. place spring compressors on new springs and compress it down so you can reassemble the assembly.
reverse process to install

Tools needed
Breaker bar (optional impact wrench atleast 250ft/lbs or breaking torque)
Metric socket set
Jack stand
Jack
Socket wrench
flat head screw driver(for the brake line clip)
spring compressors

Optional but almost essential:
Pb blaster (for stubborn bolts/nuts)

I did this off the top of my head so, if i missed anything feel free to correct.
