Default Hey all New to the Accent as well as The Forum

Took a step down after going through heck with my 1g laser.. I fancy this car aside from being automatic and im ready to pimp it out..

First off the vin on this car reads that it is an Accent GL. However on the back of the car there is a GT ornament.. Did someone change this? Is the GT better than the GL motor wise or does it just look cool?

Secondly im ready to move over my stereo and it doesnt look too obvious how to remove the stock head unit. Any ideas on this?

Welcome!

No, if your car has indiglo guages and a small spoiler on the back it's not mislabeled, it's actually a GT. GT is not an official model, it's a package. It's a GL with the GT package. All LC2 Accents (like yours and mine) have the same 1.6L DOHC engine, same gearing, same everything in the US.

I'm pretty sure you'll find good answers on how to remove the stereo in the Sounds & Security forum, but I'll do what I can from memory...Open cupholders and remove screws, open glovebox and remove compartment, disconnect HVAC connectors, pop off stereo surround panel. Or similar.

It's too bad you have an automatic. The automatics make the Accent a very, very slow car. The manual tranny cars are a lot sportier.

Sure, you can convert to the manual tranny but it is quite a bit of work. If you're going to do that much work you could also swap in the Beta (2.0L from Elantra/Tib) while you're at it if you want a bit more power and potential.
