What do you guys mean my a beta swap when talking about engines and trannies?

hyundai 2.0 = beta, found in elantra's and tiburons. What they are calling beta transmissions are those that come stock attached to a 2.0.

People like to replace the 1.5 and 1.6 (alpha) motors in accent with the larger beta motor.

Ok. Thank you. So what does it mean beta x3 or x1? I was under the impression that beta ment untested or testing.

x3 = accent classic code

beta is just the name they gave that family of engines. It has been more than tested.
