Default Its got me stumped...........

Hi guys,

I have a 92 excel and had an intermittent fault where it chuggs as if its running out of fuel. I turn the ignition off (still rolling) and then restart it again and after several times (and some backfires) it keeps on going. It made no difference if it was going up hill or if the engine was hot / cold.

It was a nuisance before but now its stopped all together. It turns over fine but is as if its got no fuel in it. Its not the fuel filter, plugs, leads, distributor, coil, air sensor. The fuel pump sounds like its working but hasn't been replaced. Any ideas?

I would check that the engine is actually getting a spark. If not, it could be a crankshaft position sensor (if the engine has one).

Pulled the 2 rubber plugs from the bottom of the trunk to let the water out. I think that I might just have a fender rust problem.

Well I would check the fuel pressure then. It has got to be a fuel/metering issue.
