just wondering is it possible to get a dual exit (one either side) exhaust for my 1998 tiburon if so is there any work needed to be done to the actual car.

You could do it, but it is not worth it. You will lose power because of the low amount of backpressure. In the end it will be costly, but won't do anything but look pretty...

I read an article that as long as you go without mufflers, a split dual exhaust is feasable...it would still serve as much purpose as a single pipe but SCC insisted that you cannot have mufflers for it to work...go figure...use two resonators instead.(glasspacks)

Now, I know nothing about exhaust, but wouldn't no mufflers look funny from the back?

A single straigt trough design is much more efficient and will give you better gains since it will alow the exhaust fumes to exit more rapidly. Not to mention it is lighter.

I did some math and 1 x 3.5'' will flow as much as 2 x 2.5"

I know, 3.5 is huge but what would be the cheapest? I reall don't know.
