I have one coming. plan to use it now while n/a and for when I get that turbo, a little later. I have a few questions:
how's the install... can anyone help?
What's the tunning process?
How much will it help?
Here are the Mods I will have:
AEM CAI (installed)
SR 4-1 Headers
Custom Exhaust
GT Cam
APEXi S-AFC
Hopefully in the next few months
BIM
BBTB
MSD dis-2

Get all of your N/A mods done first. You need to dyno tune the S-AFC. For now, it will be a pretty light on your dash. If you dyno tune it before the rest of your N/A mods, you will need to re-dyno for each mod. Huge waste of money. If you DO have that kind of money, could you throw some my way? J/K.
Install shouldn't be too bad, there are some pinout diagrams floating around on here that would make it a snap. Sorry, I don't have one for you. Not too many wires for that, so if you are good at wiring, not much time at all. When you do get on the rollers to tune that thing, most of the N/A guys aim for a 13.5 a/f ratio. The dyno shop should have a wideband lambda meter there that can be plotted against engine rpm. Make your a/f ration smooth by changing adjusting the fuel % at the rpm points. Once again, for N/A, aim for 13.5.
Also, you have, I think, 2 throttle points to set, low and high. These need to occur when you are at wide open throttle. If you set your throttle points during closed loop operation, your computer will compensate for it during the closed loop time and force your car back to the a/f ratio it is supposed to run at. I think you should set low for somewhere around 75%, but don't quote me on that.
There is much more to the setup of the s-afc, and I probably mis-spoke on some points, but if anyone else has some experience with it, chime in, mine is limited. Also, do a search on this and you should come up with loads of info.
this should be an interesting post since I will be getting my AFC by next week. Quick question, prob the wrong place to post but we'll see. What seetings should I use on My afc when runing Nitrous?

HMMMM................Nothing comes to mind.
Well, iv'e read all the info I can find on the S-AFC. Here's what I think I understand.
1. APEXi S-AFC tricks your stock ECU into thinking there is more oxygen or less oxygen thus causing it to increase or decrease the amount of fule it injects.
2. This allows the user to better control the fuel mixture, leaner or richer. The ECU from the factory is not programed for best preformance. Thus, the user can adjust as to allow for better performance.
3. This will have little effect on stock cars. The more modifications the greater the effect the S-AFC will have on preformance, anywhere from 1-2 hp on a lightly modded car to 8-10 on a heavely modded car (Red, back in the day).
4. THe S-AFC is beat used to lean out the mixture not to richen it (don't know why, just what I have read). Thus it may be nest used with the addition of larger injectors, 340cc to 450cc. Apparently 550cc is to large.
5. seem that running rich kills HP. Thus running leaner increases HP. Running to lean is vary bad though, BOOM! Tuning need to be done right to find a safe middle ground.
6. Here is where people say different things. Some say you MUST have it dyno tuned. Others say you can tune it yourfelf using an A/F guage and an EGT guage. Of course dyno tunning would be ideal and provide the best performanc results.
7. Dyno tuning is expensive. for this reason it is best to tune the S-AFC after all you mods have been added. Just have it done once. not everytime you add a mod.
Now my question is this. can I really tune it, reasonably at least, with an A/F & EGT gauges? If so, would it be a good idea to do untill I get the rest of my mods, and then have it professionaly dyno tuned?
Although this means I would need a A/F & EGT guages. if the install if those relativle easy?

Yes to all. Just be very careful tuning it on your own. If you're N/A and have mods to increase airflow, you shouldn't need to lean it out at all. As long as your using the AFC to richen and not to lean out, the worst thing you can do is foul your plugs. Just remember, you only have to run lean once to blow the motor.

OK, I will likely be leaving the tuning alone until I have all my mods and can afford to have the dyno tuning done. Always head the wisdom of those with superior knowledge and experience.

When are you installing it. I'm in West Palm Beach, about an hour or so away. Maybe I can install mine too. just a thought.....
