i've got this horrible, loud, obnoxious, and embarrasing squeel.. the belts will spin slower , almost to a stop, then spin back to norm.. also, the battery light comes on when the steering wheel is turned all the way in either direction, and the belt(s) will squeel at wheels turn, downshifting and low-speed accelerating. what the hell is up? is something off balance? warped? if off balance, how do i balance it? my tibs a 5'er. please help me, i can't take it anymore!! my car is supposed to be a competitor, not fred sanfords second hand ride.. maybe i overtightened the underdrive?:hmmm:
OK check it!Feel the belts and see if they are overtightened, if they are, loosen them and see if the problem repeats. If not, remove the belts again and check the damper pulley(the underdrive at the crank)and see if the PU has become dislodged. Overtightening the pulley can cause this to happen. ALso check the rest of the belt-driven components for bearing wear and excessive runout, one of the components may be siezing; overtighteneing puts a lot of stress on the bearing assys.
If the belts are loose, tighten them and see if the problem presists, this is best done before tearing everything down again.
Hope that helped!

When you put the underdrive pulley on, did you re-use the same belts, or replace them? I ask because the stock belts are too long with an underdrive pulley. You need to replace all of the belts that go around the crank pulley with shorter ones.

i put on the recommended belt, not the stock one. used the dressing, i knew it wasn't it. i also used anti seize compound like i shouldve. but i put the underdrive on w/ an impact gun, i was figuring that that was the prob. i'll loosen it soon as i can. thanks for the help! i hope i fix it soon, its so damn embarrasing.
voila! problem solved! changed the belts, re-tentioned everything, no more squeal, no more embarrasement, no more fred sanford second hand ride! i'm good to go! i would like to take this time to thank all of the little people who made this possible...blah blah but seriously, thanks! i love this forum.:
