I'm just curious. Can manual-transmission cars such as the Tiburon or even the 140hp Celica or Integra beat V6 automatics such as the Toyota Camry and Accord if the driver is good enough?
I beat a v6 auto accord with my auto tibby. Of course the driver sucked horribly... I don't think she pressed the gas all the way...but I do have the slips to prove it lol...
maual or auto it doesnt make a whole lot of difference once the auto is out of the 1-3k rpm range which only takes about 1 second. after that you are just about equal. but insome case that second can kill you. thats why i got Zex hehe
did you just lose to an auto 4spd? i think you did...

The Camry is a much heavier car and the four door Accord is as well. Because of this, even though they might have a little more horse, it is needed to move the bulky weight of the car. Remember too, a Tib can beat even a good v8 in a 1/8 of a mile if you have good reaction time.

I've beat a Camry V6-LE so yes you can, and as far as accords? I don't know... My friend has a 92 accord EX and it's a 5 speed... not a V6 but I beat it everytime....

about a month ago, several V6 automatic 95-99 Nissan Maxima owners on www.maxima.org admitted to losing to the 140 hp 5spd Celica GT. I'm pretty sure in short races the stick will over power a sluggish auto

B-4 the turbo I could smoke my friends 1999 V6 Auto Accord. They are fairly sluggish 0-40. Above 40 they really take off.
You'd never beat one in a 40-80 MPH race, but a 0-60, you should be able to do it.
Per www.car-stats.com
2001 Honda Accord EX V-6 7.6 0-60 15.9 1/4 mile
1998 Hyundai Tiburon FX 8.4 0-60 16.5 1/4 mile Unknown tranny on the tibby.

Actually the auto's are slower for three reasons.
1) As stated above, they don't get to launch with as much power, because they're at lower RPM's upon launching.
2) Auto-box loses more power between flywheel and wheels than manual. For tibs, loss is about 16% for auto, and about 11.5% for stick. So again, they won't even have as much power to use.
3) Taller gears are slower for acceleration. 4 speed auto trannies are going to have taller (slower) gears than your 5 speed stick.
I can take both V6 Camry's and V6 Accords with my car, but only by a couple cars.
And Random's right, the V6 Accord is more of a highway cruiser than a drag racer, so the gearing is appropriate for having power later on, not 0-60.
When my mom lets me or i just steal her 2000 Honda Accord V6 I usually race a few ppl light to light and in my experiences I beat most lower hp 5-spds but then again I never actually raced in a real 1/4 mi or 1/8 mi, but the I have been beatin by a few Tibbi's but They all had mods so It's really a toss up depends on driver, conditions, and distance.
