Have any of you guys that have a tibby been getting really bad gas milage, like 15-18 mpg. Could someone tell me what the problem might be? I have many different ideas what it might be, but I'm not sure <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

When was it's last tune up? Plugs and wires that are over 30,000 miles

Damn, I get 40mpg on the highway and around 32 in the city. After the break in period, the gas mileage increases. So if you are still in the break in, give it some time. Around 5,000 miles, you should be at the estimated mileage.

Okay...if you are getting gas mileage that low, you are either not computing it right, or something is wrong with your motor maintenance wise. What mods do you have on your car?
Do a quick cheap tune up and see if this helps.
#1. new clean air filter. If you have a CAI, clean your air filter per the manufacturers instructions
#2. New spark plugs. Replace your plugs if they are older than 20,000 miles. Try NGK "V-Power Coppers". If you plugs are fairly new, pull them off and look at them. Report how they look here. Whiteish/grey ash deposits mean oil is being burned...black carbon means you are running rich. If possilble, report on Each cylinder seperatly.
#3 If you have more than 25000 miles on your car, change out your fuel filter.
#4. Check your coil pack for "arcing". Park somewhere in the dark as far away from any light source as possible, Then Rev the engine by moving the TB. Do you see sparks from the spark plug wires or coilpack? If so, consider replaceing them.
#5. Over 60,000 miles, replace your timing belt.
#6. Over 100,000 miles, replace BOTH o2 sensors.

I would just like to thank Random for his contribution on this subject. I have had pretty bad mileage also and will take Random's advice. The only problem is that i dont know where to get the o2 sensors, i'm afraid to ask my dealer because they're stupid and like to charge alot for anything, the rest of the stuff i can do myself.

P.S. if you were wondering why my dealer is so anal, it is because i am in Trinidad, down in the Caribbean and the dealers here dont know alot about electronics, since they were never trained . Being a sun systems admin, this pisses me off to no end!
Get their 1-800 number off their website and call them. They offer 10 to 15% discount on all Hyundai OEM parts if you mention you found them through the internet. Just be warned...the o2 sensors are about $100 each.
