I found this message on a message board. I was looking for info on this "upgrade", basicaly I want to know what it does, is it a good idea and if so, what kind of benefits would I get from doing this. Also, is there a better option out there...I'm not necessarily worried about voiding the warranty but would like to keep it if possible. Here is the posting:
"There is a performance upgrade that will not void your warranty. If you have a
Hyunadi Mechanic, install the intake cam from the 1.8L Elantra motor, it is an
Hyundai part, installed by Hyundai service, so it's warrantied. The 1.8L cam
has 4mm more lift and I believe 10 degrees longer duration."
Thanks for your help.

I have heard the same as well, and as far as I can tell, if Hyundai does the work and it Hyundai parts, then it should be covered. Although, some dealerships don't mind what you do to your car as long as it is not causing the problem that you are having, excluding nitrous of course. But please don't consider my experience as a professional opinion.
Come to my dealership they'er cool with anyhting, they thought my nitrous kit was cool, but my car is advertisment for them, so they should warranty it.
Keep in mind that the dealership will NEVER KNOW you replaced the cam, unless they remove the cam to check it for specs. They don't have part numbers on them.
The 1.8L Elantra cam does NOT give 7 WHP. There are 25x degree cams that can't even claim that....

Random, doesn't the cam out of the 1.8 tibby give you an added hp rating?? I know it is only top end hp, but remember the SE's were rated at 154hp. I think red has a full explination on this subject in the past.

To everyone affected by the events of Sept 11, 2001, my best wishes go out to the men, women and families. It is some sad times indeed.
It was not the SE's, but the Korean Type-R and the UK only F2 Evolution that got 154 HP.
No one has gotten the specs on the Type-R or F2 Evo cams, so we do not know that they are the 1.8L elantra cam.
Both the F2 Evo and the Type-R get different exhaust and a different ECU mapping to make more HP.
I'm trying to get boogyman to get the Type-R cams. A Call to a UK Dealership parts deparment netted me one bit of information. The F2 Evos bumpsticks do not share part numbers with the tiburon or the elantra, they are a seperate part number, but they would not give me the specs on the cams. I just need someone who speaks korean to call a Hyundai dealership in korea to try and get the part numbers and specs for a Type-R tibby's cams....
