Default shifter length

Three questions about the B&M short shift kit, please
(1) Does it stick up farther inside the car than the stock shifter?
(2) Does it fit the stock leather shift boot?
(3) Can you fit a stock leather knob to it?
I love my TIB ("Flipper") 01 Cobalt Blue, but wish it shifted like my boyfriends new Mini Cooper. TIB still kicks its ass though.....

1. No. It is higher up in the sence of fwhere it is positioned in accordance to the front console. for example, with the stock shifter, in 3rd gear, your shifter is about 5 inches from the stereo deck. with the B&M, i'd say its about 4 inches from it.

2. yes

3. Yes, I use it in the winter. Metal shifters and -40 weather is pure stupidity.

I learned to drive on a 1971 Formula Firebird with the fourspeed... My father had installed a metal t-handle hurst shifter.... you could not touch it with your bare hands in the winter!

F**k winter. You ever touch a B&M metal shift knob in the summer? I think my shift knob in my T/A had a nice layer of burnt skin on it.

The B&M shifter is just as tall as the stock. It feels cumbersome for a short shifter. I cut the shaft of mine toget a better feel and use an aftermarket knob and matching e-brake handle. here take a look athttp://groups.msn.com/sanpids/laughinggas.msnw. After doing so, the shifts feels more solid and shorter. The Hyundai Rep was impressed when I took it in for service.

Someone explain the methodology for cutting the shifter. I have the B&M, and it is indeed shorter than stock, but I would like it even shorter.

Mine is shorter than stock, just not a whole lot shorter. It's hard to tell by just eyeballing it, but the knob hieght is lower.
