Hey I was wondering I just instaled my new B&M short shifter and was having a little trouble. It feels great. I swear by it but when I am in 2nd gear I can push it towards 4th and I will get it to the potition of 4th and still be in second. Because I didn't go through nuetral. And if I go up to nuetral and back down to 4th or up to 3rd it all works properly but It feels a little sloppy with the gear doing that. I instaled it myself so I think I might have done something wrong. I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem might be.

Are you saying you're in 2nd gear, and instead of going up, right, down to get to fourth, you just push the stick to the right? You shouldn't be able to put it into fourth that way, and you shouldn't try.
I had a problem similar to this and it was that a bracket holding the linkage in place fell off and had to be replaced. Put your stock shifter back in and see if you still have the problem. If you do take it to the dealership and have them look at it. If you do not, the B&M might be defective.

Well kharne I am not able to swich gears I will be in second and the shifter can move over to the position of 4th without actualy changing gears so I will still be in 2nd but the shifter in the position of third. I was't trying tom do this I never tried to switch gears that way, it doesn't seem like a good Idea don't worry I'm not that bad.
I will try what you sugested Dragonsys but I will give it a little while till it warms up and that may be it. Also the fact that I instaled it and have really no knowledge of mechanics or any aptitude. But I'll try to learn somehow.

Well, the B&M is real straight forward. Open up your console again and make sure both cables are securely on the shifter, and make sure that the spring that returns your shifter to the center is on correctly and functioning right.
That slop is normal. That's what happens with cable shifters. Rod type shifters are usually much better, but more expensive to manufacture. Hyundai's are inexpensive because Hyundai used alot of cost cutting measures in the design.

I agree it was alittle sloppy to start but this is really bad I'm going in tomorow to see what I can find. The stock was tighter than that. Well now you have me wondering is there any wayt to convert to a rod shifting mechanism?

Well just and update tell you I fixed ut. I had to use the stock thingie. The definition of thingie is that little white part at the very botom of the mechanism. It was a cold day so the metal constircted and it woud not go is so I sued the stock one. It turns out it was were the slack was coming from. I tryed today and it was a little warmer than the other day so I managed to get it in.

Wow... That was harsh dude.
Most tranversemounted cars use shifter cables.
I would not consider it a cost cutting feature. more like. A cable is used more n luxury. And a rod is used more for a race car.
Rods are bit hard to implement in a transvere mounted car being the engine roll would really cause the shifter to knock around. Back and forth is more noticeable then side to side in a longitude transmission.
Hell...trannys you buy from Quiafe come with shifter cables and not rods.
Likewise longitude tranny are rods.
