I am wondering if it is possible to get a remote trunk release put on my 2K1 Tib. My alarm/keyless entry, has the capability of doing it, but I have no idea where to start to be able to do this. I want to able to pop the trunk with my remote, is all. Any help or personal experience is appreciated. Thanks!
yes it would be possible, but you would need to have an electronic actuator installed to do so. Most any place the can install alarms can do the actuators as well.

DEFINATELY purchase the solinoid yourself, then have it professionally installed. Alarm shops will charge you doulbe the cost for the parts. You can purchase most car alarm parts at http://www.velocitymotorsport.com/index_main.html. Go under Security/Starters, then Alarm Accessories.
In my 2nd gen Tib the following are compatible and installed:
Power Trunk Release Solenoid $ 39.95
Power Window Roll-Up or Down Modules $ 39.95
Power Door Lock Actuators Each $ 39.95
You'll also need relays for all of them ($2.25 each), contact Jeff @ Velocity Motorsports (velocity@valleycable.com), he'll help you out. :smoking:
You know... I found the lever to open the trunk on my tibby funny. My old Excel, 1988 vintage... it had an electric release. Talk about a step backwards.

Hey cringe, I got the power trunk release solenoid. It's DEI if that makes a difference. Do you know if it's easy to install by yourself, or should I pay to get it installed. I can get it installed at work, but they want 50 bucks alone for labor. And I KNOW it's not going to be TOO hard to install, let alone take a long time.
If anyone has done this install themselves, or would be willing to give me some advice. I'd appreciate it. Thanks
yes, have it professionally installed. Any alarm installation place should be able to do it fairly cheap, though youl may end up paying "Alarm Install" prices on labor.
I don't know all about electronics and stuff but I have a question? If you have the remote open feature on the trunk, you know the little lever down by the seat(I think its down on the driver's floor near the seat or in the door) then why do you have to go pay for extra electronic stuff? Shouldn't you be able to route wires so you can get signal over to trunk wires that way you press your button and it opens, just as it would if you pulled the lever by the driver's seat in the car?

Some folks like the convenience of having remote door/trunk unlock. Personally, I think it's a handy feature, especially if you have your hands full or whatever. Our Tiburon went in for an alarm install this past christmas & we decided to get the remote door unlock as part of the alarm package (BTW - we purchased a DEI Sidewinder alarm with remote start as well, a very handy feature to have here in Michigan -LOL a heated car is good!)
Anyways, getting to your question. You still need the actuator to physically open the trunk release back there in the trunk, make sense? You just can't route wires back there to "open it" because the actuator is what accomplishes this task. Hope that wasn't too confusing & someone feel free to add/correct me if I'm off base here.

The lever by the driver's seat isn't electronic. There's a cable that runs from that lever all the way back to the latch. You need to install a solenoid near the latch and attach it to the same point as the stock cable. If you're feeling adventurous, you can also install a momentary switch under your dash and attach that to the newly installed solenoid. Then you can remove the cable all together. You can also do a switch/solenoid for the gas door, if you're really bored.
