Does anyone know how hard it is to flush the radiator? Is it just as simple as popping out the drain plug and then refilling the radiator and reservoir with fluid? If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
to flush the coolaint system you need: water, rad flush, rad fluid and lots of time.
first drain the rad, then fill with clean fluid, then run the car for 10 minutes to get the fluid into everything, then add the fludh and run for 30-60 minutes (depending on the flush type and brand), let teh engine cool off, then drain and fill with water run for 30 minutes or until around 3/4 hot (on the temp gauge) let cool, drain, repeat water step 2 times, then fill with clean coolaint and let run for 10-30 minutes to get it into every nook and cranny then top it off.
There are probably other ways to do this with less steps or whatever, but this is how I have done all my vehicles (recommended to me my Ford)
my $.02

coming from the antique car world (fiat spiders and Lancia Montecarlos) If I was going to go through all that effort... I would probably replace the radiator hoses too. That is just my two cents.. I prefer to spend a little now and not a lot later.

Everyone thanks for the advice. The reason I'm doing this is because I have close to 100K miles on the car. I had my mechanic do one of those tests, and it said that the coolant needed to be replaced and the radiator flushed. I don't know, with the weather changing for freezing to very hot and back again, I think it makes sense. Who knows???:ermm:
unless you have a leak, something leaking into the coolaint, or your coolain/water mix isn't right.... then I don't know why you would have to do this... It's good to do it once every couple of years though....

Hell, best way to flush it is to buy one of those kits that lets you put a tap in your system so you can pressure flush it a bit (Low pressure water hose).
Comes with some hookups so you put it on one of your coolant hoses and hook up a garden hose. Flushes ALL the crap out of your system. Then, you just refill, run, let it cool, and refill again.
