Default MOVED: NooB: What is the best way to get your car up on jack stands?

Check it out: Kragen Auto Supply has a killer deal now which is (2) jack stands and a floor jack for $19.99. That was such a deal that I bought one, and will probably go back to buy another after I couldn't find the matching jack stands cheaper. The problem is that the jack stands have a maximum lift of 16" and the floor jack only 13". I want as much lift as I can get so I was thinking of adding some height to the jack by placing a 2x4 between the jack and body of the car when I raise it in order to get a little more height.

1. Is this 2x4 trick a good idea or no?

I am going to be installing a full Eibach Pro-System-Plus kit (springs, dampers, anti-roll bars). I even got the Eibach Alignment bolt kit. I do plan on getting 17" wheels and Eibach recommended to get the bolts now and that way I don't need to go back into the suspention when I upgrade wheels. Currently I have 15s.

Second option is to just get (4) jack stands and spend a lot more money for a floor jack that has a higher lift. I figure that the damper and springs are easy enough to do with a little lift, but the roll bars are going to need me under the middle of the vehicle so I will need as much raise as possible.

2. What do you think about that?

Finally, assuming I end up with (4) floor jacks and (1) jack stand, in which order is it safest to raise the vehicle? There are so many ways to do it...

3a. Jack up front driver, add stand. Jack up front passenger, add stand. (At this point the front of the vehicle is in the air) Jack up rear passenger, add stand. Jack up rear driver, add stand.

3b. Jack up front center of vehicle, add front stands on driver and passenger side of vehicle at the same time. Jack up rear center of vehicle, add rear stands to driver and passenger side of vehicle at the same time.

3c. Jack up front driver, add stand. Jack up rear driver, add stand. (At this point the driver's side of the car is in the air) Jack up front passenger, add stand. Jack up rear passenger, add stand.

What are your thoughts here?

Thanks again everyone.

jack up the front seperatly! like driver then passanger. then do the from the center. that seems like the safest way to do it.
