From driving and working experience[well, driving during work, anyway]:

Handling: 8 [tendency to understeer, inherent in FWD anyhoo]
Power: 5 [needs work, but thats why we're here isnt it?]
Looks: 9 [Nice flowing lines, but needs bigger wheels]
User friendliness: 9 [cockpit region a little too short for us long torso types]
Mechanic friendliness: 10 [this is one of my favourite cars to work with, pity they dont come in very often cuz of their reliability]

irate:

I more or less agree... except on a few reasons. I too give the cockpit low marks due to the layout of the gages and the lack there of.

I am taking care of that though.. I just won a dash on ebay that I am going to butcher to fit REAL VDO gages into... Tach where it belongs. front and centre.. speedo on the left.. oil pressure, temp, boost (for when I get my SC) Air fuel, and fuel on the right... I just need to figure out where to put all the warning lights.

On a scale of 1 to 10...it would prolly rate like MechX rated it.

However....if I had my mods...it would prolly be the following:
Handling: 10+
Power: 10+
Looks: 10+
User Friendliness: 10+
Mechanic Friendliness: 10+ (for me, at least...for everyone else...either 8 or 9)

Get the picture? :

I rate it okay, 7 / 10. I've driven many cars, from Dodge Neon to BMW Z3. I liked the Z3 the best. (well of course)

So about the tiburon:

First, all I can say is that I am talking about a 97 tiburon. I have owned it for a year now, and I realize it was used when I got it but my review still holds value. I drive it every day so here is my mini review, I would guess the same points can be used towards the other years as long as they are the same model (RD):

It steers hard compared to other cars. Feels like I am sliding blocks around on concrete. If the steering wheel was easier to work with, it would mean less fatigue and a better driving experience. Maybe some improvements to the power steering could fix. Then again I won't go off too far because I'm not a car specialist.

Not very rigid as stock. It is very tippy when cornering, of course a strut bar and some suspension mods will fix but then it is not stock anymore. I want to compare it as stock, as I think that is what we are looking for in this thread.

Weak door handles. These seem poorly designed on RD model, flimsy and need occasional grease to stay operating smoothly. Other cars have the flip up handles which are average but they are for a reason. (they work good and require virtually no maintenance)

Weak alternator. This is probably due to maintain a cheap car price. But sitting in parking lots and red lights watching/feeling the steering wheel and other things shake is not very fun. All I need to do is try and work the power windows or something and have the radio on and the RPMs drop a couple hundred, shake the car, then skp back up to the idle range of 800 RPMs. I did a mod to my car, to see if I could reduce this problem. I added over a 1000 amp battery under the hood to replace the little 600 amp, drove as usual, tested it a week later, and it still does the same thing. Of course you can say it doesn't matter, but that could be user preference.

Other than that, it is a nice car to drive in my experiences. It could be a lot worse. So for the price and drive ratio, it is a pretty car that isn't hard to drive. That is a 7/10 rating for me.

Getting 13 miles out of it with no oil shows something of reliability. Engines tend to sieze up faster than that with no oil.
