throw rate on SR shifter.

guys!!! I would like to buy a short shifter but would like to know the throw rate on these shifters. I heard that B&M cuts the shifts by half front to back and 1/3 side to side. what aobut SR's. Is it about the same? I'm really leaning toward the B&M though, coz I don't have to make any cuts and It install easier. From what I've read on TeamSR the front to back is reduced by 1/3 to 1/2 and the left to right is the same as stock

The left right is reduced on the SR unit as it is also a shorter shaft, and a longer link at the bottom.

I have not seen the B&M in action, so I cannot say which throw is shorter or better.

But I would say the side to side is cut by about 1/4 to 1/3 with the SR unit, and the forward back cut by 1/2 to 1/3.

hell, sounds like we need to do a short shifter comparo! LOL!

The main advantage to the B&M unit is that you do not have to cut your baseplate, so install is 15 minutes TOPS!!! The SR unit requires you to remove the baseplate from the center console, and then cut a large portion of the baseplate away. This ups the install time to about 1 to 1.5 hours. I've done so many of them I can do it in about 45 min.

B&M is a reputable manufacturer, right. I mean if its good enough for the V8's.

I just installed a SR short shifter in my car over the weekend. It took a little time to get the cuts right, but it feels great to drive. 1st thru 4th gear are nice and tight together but 5th seems a little far away. hope that helps<img src=/images/forums/snitz/smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>

The SR install goes even faster if you skip the dremel and go for the rotozip. Took me less than a minute to cut my baseplate, and about 25 minutes total install. Probably less if I had to do it again.

I dunno if the short shifter from B&M for the Tib will be like the B&M's ones for other cars , but if they are they will break if your ever driving and shift hard enough. A couple of people I know have complained how they can be cheaply made. It would be nice if DC sports made one for the Tib though.

i get rubbing on my leather little wrap around form the sr short shifter in reverse.... it's very tight...

Hmm, I'd really like to see how someone can snap a 1/4" piece of solid aluminum (B&M shifter), let alone bend one. If they can, then they most likely have a dead tranny and can't shift the thing in or out of gear.

The B&M is entirely aluminum? If that's so, I'm sticking with my SR. Al may be really easy to work with, but it is definitely not the material of choice for long term usage. My SR shaft is currently made of Brass, I'm going to replace it with a steel one later, and I'll be happy then. <img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0>
