Timing Chain or Belt? - Hyundai Performance Forums

Hi Guys,

Do the European Hyundai Coupe's have a timing chain or belt? It's a 1997 2.0L.

I'm almost 100% certain its a belt!

It is a belt and needs to be changed every 50k miles.

They have both. There's a belt that drives the exhaust cam off of the crankshaft. The intake cam is driven off the exhaust cam via a chain. Your car is right hand drive, correct? If so, the belt is on the driver's side of the engine. The chain is on the passenger's side, under the valve cover.
