Default evo engine in RD?

well,,, from all those problems with taking the tranny out to change the clutch, i was thinking of swapping in new engine. i mean different engine from other cars.
and the evo engine came to my mind. they are same size and identical (since hyundai used to use mitsu). well, some people in australia and europe have done some but i don't think anyone in states done it. i am guessing i need the whole clip and weld some mounting locations but how hard do you think it would be? do i have to have new mounting locations?

Biggest problem is...illegal. Hence why no one has done it. You cannot swap engines of different makes into cars after '95....which completely voids all Tibs. :dead:

they stopped that in 95? I do not see the point.. after all, as long as the car still passes emissions... anyway, make sure the engine does not say "mistubishi" anywhere and as long as you do not live in california.. who would know?

It's been done before (well...with an older 4G63T) and I think the final cost was around $10K. If you have that kind of money to spend, go trade in your Tib for an EVO. :

What problem are you having with the clutch/tranny? Why not just figure that out before you start thinking about engine swaps.

You would be better off just buying an EVO or if $30k isn't what you want to spend, then an eclpise gst or gsx can be bought rather cheaply.

As far as getting an evo engine, you will either need to import one, or find a totaled evo here in the states. Count on spending close to $10gs just for the totaled car.

Actually, as far as emissions law, there's nothing illegal about swapping a motor from a car of a different make. The only restriction is that the engine must be from a vehicle of the same year or newer. Technically, it is illegal because the Tib has only been DOT certified for crash testing with the Tib engine. But then, there's no agency that enforces this law. It's the same vehicle code that makes it illegal to defeat your ABS or remove your airbags. I've never heard of anyone being told to remove their engine because it's not the engine that was crash tested.

Pointless discussion anyway. If you can't get your tranny off to change a clutch, you sure as HELL can't swap an engine.
