i know its been posted before, but the search aint working right. i got a friend that thinks he could hook up the v6 tiburon engine into my 97 tib. i was just wondering if anyone else has done this, or if the firewall/center console would have to be moved. also curious as to whetehr or not the 03 tiburon gt engine would match up with the stock transmission of my current tib. i figure it wont. thanks for the input!

i got a 2001 tib 5-speed. Today i pulled up next to a brand new v6 tib goin about 55mph. we both looked at each other and hit the floor at the same time. He did not pull away at all. All the way up to 125 mph we were right next to each other. i then hit the brakes to avoid missing my exit and coudnt believe he didnt smoke me. i was very surprised to see he didnt blow me away let alone get nothing on me at all.
hypathetically speaking, if you could get a v6, which produces more hp, into a lighter car, wouldnt it be faster? 170hp in a 3,000 lb car is about the same as 140 in a 2,000 lb car. but wouldnt 170 hp in a 2,000 pounder be faster than either? just a thought :smoking:

I dont know too much about the new tiburons, but your statement is definitly correct. A buddy of mine had a gti hatchback with the regular 4 banger in it. Just recently he put a jetta vr6 engine in it. Although the vr6 engine in the jetta wasnt too much faster than his 4 banger gti, now that the v6 engine is in the little car, he runs circles around normal jettas with the v6 engine.

Not always, it depends on where the engines create power.
The Hemi powere Ram has both more power and torque then the Nissan Titan but yet the Titan is faster in a 0-60, 0-90, and a 1/4 mile. The titan wil also out pull the Hemi but the Hemi does have a faster passing gear. The reason being is the Titan has more low end torque.
But, yes the V6 Tib is faster then the 4cyl.
If you pull two cars off the lot, same year but one is the v6 and the other is the i4, and both are manuals, the v6 will win. The one that Double_A raced must have either been an automatic or a sh!tty driver.
Now, as discussed many times before, the reson the swap is a waste of money is you could easily turbo the car for less money they trying fit the V6 in another car. Even if you had another GK, it would be easier and cheaper to to turbo then swap.
No, the v6 does not bolt up to the beta tranny. You will need the V6 trany and ECU. The swap could be done, but financially it isn't wise. I say buy a turbo kit and build from there. The beta (both 1.8 and 2.0) are very strong and capable motors.

There is a replacement for displacement. It is on 2 wheels and 600cc.
Like AUTO said, the V6 swap is definitely possible, but not economically smart. Everything will have to be custom fitted. Just because it's a Tiburon engine doesn't mean it's a direct swap. You'd probably spend $3000+ to get what...an extra 20whp? Not too smart. For $3000 you could build a NICE turbo setup on the 1.8/2.0 Beta and gain 60-100whp depending on how far you want to go, and retain the car's weight.
And if you just really wanted to swap motors, it would probably cost the same to swap anything in there...might as well go Mitsu 4G63T or something.
and while the v6 is an alumuminum engine, it probably weighs more than the beta... so you are going to make your already front heavy car even more so.. not the hot ticket for handling or braking.
