If i have a custom intake made for my tib....how hard is it going to be to install it myself....i dont know much....but my friends will be helping(they installed my friends intake...but it was REALLY easy) im wondering how hard its going to be to install....& how much harder it is to install a CAI than a regular intake? & is it worth it to get anything other than a CAI(some say that a warm air intake doesnt add enough HP to worry about)
Well what you are calling a "warm air intake" would probably be better refered to as a short or shorty intake.
Intakes are all pretty easy to install. If your friend has done it before he will have no problem doing it again. It would even be pretty easy to figure out if you never have done it in the past.
still didn't answere the question. whats the point of getting a short AI if th HP is a little to none increse due to hot air. I think thats the question.....and a good one cause I dont know..... Its a pain in the ass to find a Cai for my tibby....ever fricken one says they dont carry one for hyundai.....

If you want a CAI you will have to order one.
KORE and AOS both make them
The point of a shrty intake is that you will get a little bit of hp increase so I think you answered your own question. In addition to that you will get a little deeper sound.
If you want to go the route of a shorty intake the second gen Tibs have a lil advantage. You have that little air scoupe where the factory intake got air from. If you get a 45 deg elbow you should be able to lead the filter to that and it will help by forcing a lil cooler air into the intake. but I would still go qith a CAI.
Question for those who have a DIY CAI: how did you attach the CAI to the front of the MAF? I'm not sure how to go about making the MAF adaptor plate. The piping is easy...

I attached the cone filter right onto the lip of the MAFS. For the O2 sensor I just cut a small hole in the neck of the Cone filter. Leaving enough room to clamp the filter to the MAFS. This is all before I got my AOS intake.
The benefit of doing a short intake is better throttle response and a much more aggressive sound.
The sound will get even louder if you install the AOS intake. It points straight at the ground at the bottom of your engine bay. It is loud for the same reason that you point your car alarm horn at the ground under your hood. Plus the intake is a lot cooler down there than inside your engine bay. I could tell a big difference going between a short intake and the AOS intake that I have now.
It's for my g.f.'s 01 Tib SE 5spd. We want to make a DIY CAI. So putting the conefilter right onto the MAF is not an option. If we bring the pipe up from the lower grille area to the MAF, how can I attach the pipe to the MAF? I'm unsure because I got a MAF adaptor plate with my CAI, but she does'nt want to spend the $$, so I'm making one. (It's better than nothing-free K&N for her)

I did the famous 18" 2 1/2" flexible exhaust pipe and attached a $25 Intimidator air filter (forgot the manufacturer name, got it at Pepboys in their crappy "fast & furious" section). The so-called "little" hole for the air temp sensor isnt as little as they say. Had to buy a big ass drill bit to get that stupid thing to fit. Removed the battery, battery tray, air filter/resonator box. Attached the thing to the original "accordian" style connecting hose. Replaced the battery tray and battery. Done deal. It could definately benefit from some kind of heat shield, but it sounds and works great as is. It doesnt look too bad, but I wouldnt show it off.
I was planning on using 3" abs, painted with heat-resistant, relective paint, and a genuine K&N cone filter I have lying around. But the round 3" abs won't match up well with the MAF mouth...
