Hey everyone, I have a 2001 tib 5-speed with 80k miles on it and the clutch is pretty burned out. I'm looking to replace it. I called a local shop that's supposed to be pretty good and cheap, they quoted a new clutch disc, bearings, flywheel resurfacing, and labour at $729. Is this a good price?
why dont u just do it yourselfu'll save a lot of money. but u will have to look up what kind of clutch to go with though. sorry to say this but i tryed SPEC n it's not that great. but i don't know about others. just look up your oppurtunities...
i went with exedy and it gets the job done well. doing it yourself will save you tons of money. If you have trouble e-mail me at erikgsi@excite.com. I can guide you through the whole thing.

So all I have at my disposal is a garage and all sorts of wrenches, no floor jack or anything fancy. Would I have to get my car up on something? Am I going to need some sort of lift for the transmission? And about how long will this take? (I'm an engineering student, so you can presume I can follow directions fairly well).
Also, will there be an issue with the fact that the flywheel will not be resurfaced? All the tranny places said it would need resurfacing.
your going to need a bunch of different wrenches and sockets.
you will also need a floor jack and a set of jackstands. a prybar may help but its not a requirement. also for removal and reinstall have a friend or two help you out. e-mail me i can write something for you to go buy and send it to you.

I have had the clutchmasters stage 1 clutch for over 1 year now and it has been great. There is a slight shudder (vibration) sometimes during low rpm takeoffs, but it will grip like crazy!
About the flywheel, either get an entirely new clutch/lightweight flywheel kit, or find a local engine machine shop, it should not cost any more than $50 (at the most) to resurface the stock flywheel. Good luck with it.
as of rite now i'm changing my clutch again. what i am doing is jacking the front on to stands, high enough to drop the tranny and get it out. it's pretty simple since there is enough room to work around. but you will need a bar or something to go across the top to hold the engine, ofcourse you need to tie rope on the bar with the lifting points on the engine. the longest it has taken me to take out and put back the tranny was probably 6~8hours. thats not including waiting for the flywheel to get resurfaced and parts i needed.
i just use a jack with a block of wood onto the oil pan. works perfect i guess the bar over top would work also
