first of all, my car started to lose power ever since i changed out the engine head.
head is out of 2000 tib 2.0 and everything has been installed right.
but for some reason, i do not get much power out.
there is a power gap (around 3-4k rpm) which feels like it is dropping the power.
even at drags, i raced a tib same year with intake and exhaust and ended up losing.
i have intake, header, and cat back.
my driving skill is not bad. on drags i take off faster than other cars.
but seem to lose power towards the high end.
same car with less mod have more high-end power and similar low end power.
my car is 99 fx.
do you think there is anything that can be done?
(oh yea.. my car has whinning noise coming from the timing belt. kinda like supercharger but is annoying. )
Mmmm, I am not an expert, but a whining noise coming from the timing belt cannot be good.aranoid: Does the belt look like it is being damaged? Is it rubbing on anything? Did you mess up the timing and move the cam sprocket in relation to the crank sprocket?:ermm:
Are you sure everything was installed correctly? I am going to go out on a limb here and say your humming timing belt and your lack in power are somehow related. I would start by checking how tight the belt is, it might be too tight.. or your tensioner bearing is going. I would get that checked ASAP!
I would also check your static timing. I am wondering if the cam wheel isn't off by a step or two on the cam belt. Not enough to have the valves meet pistons, but enough that your hp and torque bias is now too far advanced.

I adjusted my timing belt too tight when I replaced it. It made a funny buzzing noise. I didn't notice any power loss...but I loosened it and now it sounds fine. As for the loss in power your guess is better than mine. Could you be loosing power due to fuel ratio's (too much air not enough fuel at higher RPM). Or a good possibility is that it could be the different head.
