Alternators

I've spent damn near the whole day looking through this site to find anything about aftermarket alternators available for my 2001 Tib to no avail. Does anyone know where I could get one? I'm planning on installing a system in my new car, and I'm afraid that the stock 90 amp alternator will not be enough.

well the 90 should be fine. but just get a new bigger (more amp) battery. If you lights start to dim go to hyundai and tell them you want an alternator with ???amps and get them to installed then you'll still be covered.

It dosen't exactly work like that! First off, Hyundai dosen't have "extra" "highamp" alternators lying around at the dealers' convience. Why? Because they do not make them. Hyundai dosen't design their alternators to fit your audio needs. They care only about supplying your car with enough power to run the STOCK electrical system. They put whats on the car for a reason. The factory alternator is sufficient enough to handle all the stress on the electrical system. Thats it! They do not make replacment highoutput alts. for me and you. IT would be nice if they did! And even if they did, what makes you think that it would be free just because the car is under warrenty.
Lastly, I've argued this point many times before. Replacing your battery with a bigger one is not going to produce you more power! A battery ONLY stores power that the alternator supplies. However, You would benefit from a actual audio battery (Optima Yellow Top) because they are designed to be discharged several times faster than a stock battery and still provide enough cranking amps to start your car with ease. When I say discharged, I mean the amplifiers ability to draw current in a split second from the battery. A stock battery will not provide this power to the amp because it is simply not capable of releasing it that fast. Thats also when a capacitor cap plays a role because it will discarge the current needed at any given time. Thats also why more people opt for a cap because it is cheaper than replcaing your stock battery with a $180 Optima.

I never said it would be free. But you don't know what they can do if you don't ask. I haven't been there to talk to them yet. I know it won't be easy to find one. I'll probally just get mine rewond.

Hello,
Just some remarks on the nice explanation about batteries and Alternators :
First off all you are all wrong, I know what I am talking about. I shall try and explain as good as I can.
First : It is not nescesarry that your alternator gives all the power you need, what will happen : you will start drawing current, when you reached the maximum of the alternator it's magnetic field will saturate and the voltage of 14.4Volts is going to drop, when the voltage drops below the voltage of the battery (12V) the battery is going to supply the needed extra power ! (offcourse if your alternator is capable of delivering all the power you need it is better because the voltage will not drop).
In my case I need peak currents of 300-350Amps, this is just not possible to deliver with 1 alternator so you add battery's, preferably 16V)
This brings me to the next issue the yellow "top" batterys, let me assure you that they are not as good as you think, It is correct that they are capable of delivering a lot of current in a short time, but recharging cost more time, I have contacted them myself and they told me that they are not really especially designed for audio performance.
If I can give you a good tip : go for a USAMPS battery, they know what they are talking about. ->special audio battery !!<img src=/images/forums/snitz/thumbup.gif width=25 height=18 border=0>
