Cheap Mods:
(Some may hamper driver comfort)
Weight Reduction by removing non engine parts = free
back seats, spare tire & jack, carpet, sound deadoning, plastic panels, roof liner, cut excess/useless metal, remove stereo equipment, window washer fluid resivouir,

Weight Reduction/ increase effeciancy/random cooling by removing engine parts that cause parasitic loss = free or small cost
Remove power steering pump (bypass the lines), remove ac, bypass tb coolant line, space hood, wrap header if present, blow by catch can, light weight flywheel, remove restrictor plate in slave cylinder

Cheap Engine mods. Header, exhaust, intake, under drive pully, 1.8 cam, Plugs and wires, put in some new grounds

1.8 ecu did not work for me, just made my engine backfire alot and revs drop faster I have tried it twice with 2 different ECUs

I have done all of this except 1.8 cam, plugs/wires, (need to finish removing AC[nobelt]) light weight flywheel and I have kept my stock speakers (for my sanity's sake).

I would give you a link to show you the pics, but fordfasters sight is no more. It is a little plate that look like a metal plastic bottle cap with a whole in it. It slows down the fluid transfer when you let go of your clutch to allow the clutch to slip. Remove the plate and the flows more freely and the clutch enguages quicker/harder from what I read this helps prolong clutch if the driver minus the factor of the driver.

Go under
-shop
--clutch systems
---clutch components
----Clutch release cylinder
-----Components

Now look at the picture and locate the part called "Valve Plate" and "Valve Spring". That is what causes the restriction.

Thanks again!
I made my own air intake setup and added a less restrictive muffler on, but did not redo anything else on the exhaust side. (Didn't want the added noise)But before we get to that lets first set the story...Its been about 5 years since I bought my 97 tiburon and I spent quite a bit of time on this forum and tried to help when I could (when I wasnt buried knee deep with things-to-do) and also enjoyed the help I received.I think I'll stick around here for awhile again, I likely won't be doing any mods anymore but will retire the car next spring (07), however I do know a bit about the first gen as far as problems go. I seemed to be one of the few unlucky receivers of a troublesome (likely abused) tiburon. At an rate I'll unwrap my story as time goes on, when I see it fitting in with my point. Mainly what I want to say is be careful when you change up the intake/exhaust and make absolutely sure you can deal with the added noise it creates. I was younger when I first did my mods but I do regret the ones I made to intake / exhaust after spending the years after getting to work on a highway where the first gen tiburons had only 5 gears. (standard transmission)If I remember right the 65 mph highway speed limit here has my car doing above 3000 RPMS in 5th gear. For over an hour each day this noise became wearing to my ears with each passing trip. (the constant hum) I also always was alone in my car, but nowadays that I have more time on the weekends to spend with friends I find the noise very intrusive when trying to have a conservation inside the vehicle. It gets worse if you enjoy riding with the windows down. I drive pretty laid back though, not crossing 4500 rpms too often. (Redline on mine is past 6000 rpms) So I try to keep things quiet. Strangely enough I never pulled the mods and reverted back to the quiet stock way of things, I guess I figured I wouldn't like the loss in power. (although I never knew officially what power was created by doing this)Also, I have a 5 speed transmission, so the noise was also loud when I was not accelerating. For ex. going down a long mountain road in 3rd gear or so with the motor humming along. In fact, it would help to consider your driving location and driving style, as I crossed a mountain each day I usually maintained around 3000-4000rpms to get me up the one side and 3000-4000 rpms as engine braking going down the other side.I see my post has become way too long for my simple thoughts but I hope it helps you in considering what to do. Anyways, enjoy your tiburon and always drive safely!Edit: Opps, I guess this topic is quite old, even though it is still on front page.
