does anyone else notice rust forming on the surface of their rotors very quickly? mine only has to be setting for a few hours if its wet or if im washing it and you can see rust start forming. just that little thin coat of it that makes brakes noisey the first time you apply them. my chrysler with 4 wheel discs never forms rust like this even if it sets for a week and my firebird does after about 2 weeks of sitting. never seen one do it this fast. anyone else have this same problem?
same problem here. I just spray some Meguiar's all surface cleaner (GP cleaner) on them and most of it comes off. It's pretty ugly though. I also notice it on the hubcentric piece. I don't have the hubcentric cap on my wheels and I notice the rust inside there. Yeah, and the brakes do squeal after I wash my car. After a few hard stomps on the brakes with normal driving, it fades away though.

All the tiburon's i've seen do it, according to the dealership....it's got something to do with the steel there made of.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/cry.gif width=16 height=16 border=0>
EBC brakes give their's a zinc/gold passivate coating to prevent corrosion.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/approve.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>Not available for mine yet....<img src=/images/forums/snitz/disapprove.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>
All of the brakes rust slightly when the cars sit for a while. Even the new ones do a bit. just drive for a wee bit and it goes away.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/wink.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>
yeah cottonmouth that much i did know. just never had seen any that did it in an hour or so. like when washing/waxing. oh well. no biggy to me, just anotehr oddity.
<img src=/images/forums/snitz/uhh.gif width=15 height=15 border=0> If you spray something on your brakes, yes they're going to squeal. And be careful. A few "good stomps" on the breaks could be not so good for your rotors. Vaseline anyone? That should make your rotors shine.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/laugh.gif width=15 height=31 border=0>

This surface rust is totally harmless and does not affect your braking ability. It will wear off under normal braking. There is no need to stomp the pedal or use any other of the 'shadetree' remedies.
Side note : If you are a racer, drag specific, surface rust on the rotors is an immediate tech inspection failure under NHRA, IHRA, IDRA, NDRA, etc rules. Drive around a bit BEFORE entering the tech inspection lanes.

I didn't mean I sprayed them on the brake rotors to remedy the rust itself. I usually spray the stuff on my wheels to clean them when I wash my car. Then I just sprayed a little on the brake rotors and the rust came off. The brakes get wet anyway when I wash it so I figured why not.
