I replaced the original tire valve caps with more cosmetically pleasing aluminum ones. Now, I can't get them off. The dealer rotated my tires yesterday and he was unable to get them off either to check the tire pressure. He said he was afraid to use any excess force for fear of damaging the valve.
Anybody have any ideas on how to remove these caps?????
Did ya try using a couple of wrenches - that is holding the base in place with one and cranking the cap with the other? Might wanna wrap the new cap with cloth or something so as not to scratch it.

gawd, thats gonna suck if you rip off the valve stem. lol.
I suppose if it all came down to it you could break the caps themselves in order to save the valve.

quote:
Sounds like 'cold fusion' to me.No trekkie jokes please.
This happens when alloy and another disimilar meatal are placed together and left for a period of time.

Don't know about this 'cold fusion' thing, non of my metallurgy profs ever mentioned anything about that. What you do get, however, when you place two disimilar metals together is a Galvanic Series of Corrosion. That is where the more anodic material will preferentially corrode over the more cathodic material in the presence of an electrolyte.
That's why you should take off the Aluminum rims in the winter time, as Aluminum is more anodic than steel (on your bolts, etc.) and salt water is a strong electrolyte. That's also why galvanized steel doesn't corrode/rust - they coat the steel with Zinc (sacrificial anode) which will preferentially corrode instead of the steel.
