Try 3 days of running with no oil. If you only had 1 quart of oil in the pan then the SHOP forgot to fill the motor. I doubt that you had any oil pressure at all being 3 or 4 quarts down. I don't think that you can blame the junk yard for this one.

I geuss what happened was that when the shop put the engine on and started it they realized that there was an oil leak coming from the oilpan gasket! So they replaced it and put more oil in...they never told me how much oil, so Im thinking they didnt put very much in! I dont know who is to blame but its gonna get fixed one way or another!

If it was due to the lack of oil is there anyway it can be fixed or will I definately need a new engine, we put more oil in it as soon as we heard the noise so I dont know if it was too late or not when we put the oil in! I would prefer not to get a new engine cause the one in there is a 2.0L and if I have the junkyard replace the motor it will have to be a 1.8L which will fit but I wont have as much power!

The metal shavings are more than likely little pieces of bearings which were sheared off due to lack of oil. Depending on damage done it might be repairable without machining the surfaces back to true by replacing the bearings. It may require machining to get the surfaces back smooth though if too much damage was done. To find out for sure requires total engine disassembly and inspection with a micrometer but you can get a pretty good idea by just looking into the oilpan as to the extent of the damages.

It is possible that too much metal was eaten away and that the damage is irreparable.

It's also possible that the crank was bent in whatever collision was responsible for the car ending up in the junkyard in the first place. That would also eat the bearings quickly.

Just FYI, simply being low on oil doesn't mean the shop didn't fill it up (although it is likely). There are many ways an engine can consume or leak oil in the meantime leaving little evidence. Especially if the car was smoking I would suspect it was burning the oil and that it wasn't low to begin with.

If i'm correct there is only 10 hp difference between the 1.8 and the 2.0. I.M.H.O. that isn't enough worry about. the main concern should be getting the car that you love back on the road and enjoying the driving experience!!! Hope everything works out!

The good news is that the 1.8l revs nicely.

Ok so now my concern is if I get a 1.8L will my ecu be able to work with it? Mine is set up for the 2.0L and someone told me that if I get the 1.8 the mapbase (?) will not match up!!! Please tell me this isn't so cuz that would mean I wouldn't have a car for awhile and I really want my car back!!!

We also found out that the flywheel was bolted on tightly so it was in fact a bad engine!

Yes, your ECU will run the 1.8l but I would consider using the ECU out of the 1.8l because it's slightly more aggressive. It should plug right in from what I've heard but I've never done it myself.

ok well i guess we will see what happens, but if I cant get the ecu from the 1.8 I can still use the ecu from the 2.0 That clears up a lot!
