Default MechaniX_034: Lancer Evo Project[RACE REPORTS incl]

After thinking about it for a while, I decided to put this thread up. Here's the car to date, about 80% finished:

Damned flowers. Theyre in full bloom now though, and they're AWESOME!

As it stands now, almost finished:

Carbon trunklid and wing blade added, lost about 20+lbs of weight.

DIY canards kit, carbon venturi leading to the airbox, carbon bonnet and pinned for safety.

DIY dash, MOTEC shift light[that you can actually buy at the audio shop only with a different connector and LED's, the shroud is the same thing] The pedals here have the same grip on them as in the previous article, but I left the alloy sections slippery to help my heel to climb onto the accelerator. I riveted them to the stock metal pedals[where the holes originally hold an aluminium plate to the pedals, they now hold both that and the pedals to the stock parts] To get the grip a bit shinier, take clear coat to them after cutting them to size and shape. Just looks that bit nicer.

Side intrusion bars, Cusco aluminium

Center reinforcement bar, same construction. Harness is a Willans one, good for 3 years. The seat's a Cobra one, measured to my body[just find someone with the same measurements as you and you can buy their seat a couple of years before it expires] with about a year and a half left on it.

Engine. All thats left are the MOTEC CDI system, the self-bleeding cooling parts and the oil catch system. The oil catch will need to be custom and made into a filtered outlet. So I designed my own and will install within the week. I'll also be rebuilding the inlet pipe to match the TB diameter.

Only thing remaining after that will be a modified Ikeya Formula sequential shifter so that I can run full-throttle ignition cut while having a sequential motion to change the gears[ie. clutchless upshift]

I'll also put the DIYs in this thread so make things easier, beginning with the DIY canards and DIY instrument panels.

Basically the car was built for circuit driving, and I'm in the process now of getting a club rego[motorsports plate] Everything that doesn't have to be in there was ripped out to save weight. The harnesses have been cut down, and if I knew where to find polycarbonate windows, they'd be next on the list. The battery and fuel surge tank sit in the boot[the latter being enclosed as per regulations] The stock fuel tank is used because it is in a good place, except that the pick-up sits lower down and a baffle assy. is added to resist swirling even more. Also, a 30-liter fuel cell won't get me more than 10 laps[generally I go about 15-20 before coming in or cooling down]

Over here Ikea (pronounced eye key ya) makes middle to low end furniture. I never heard of Ikeya Formula personally so the first time I read it, it sounded kinda cheesy. Guess that's what I get for being ill-informed.

LOL it's these guys:

+ + + IKEYA FORMULA CO.,LTD. + + +

It's basically, a piece of ricer sh!t that we some some some potential in. What we saw in the design was that we could run full-throttle upshifts and some other fuctions; we can trigger gear-dependant scramble boost with the MOTEC, tailored antilag per gear[since a gate selector is harder to do] AND it cuts down shift time between 2>3 and 4>5, which are my slowest shift areas.
I know its using technology to mae up for driver weaknesses, but I'd rather do that than swap my gearset because of mis-shifts.

Thanks for that Vamp, it means a lot really. Zach, the speedometer is actually covered up with gaffa tape. I useed to have a mental block when it came to speed; I tended to let go when I got to the speed limit and had to conciously remind myself that on the track, there are no speed limits. Also, I was looking at it too much. So a friend of mine covered it and said to not care about the speed, only think about the revs[he races motorbikes]

I think I'll remove the custer entirely when the shift light is reprogrammed, and in its place run only a tach and warning LED's.

The open area where the passenger airbag was is getting turned into a panel for the MOTEC interface port, and maybe a LAMBDA meter.

beautiful car man, what are the numbers at the wheels?

one piece of advice as far as looks. color match all the carbon fibre parts

I also noticed that you still have the power windows, are you still running stock glass? if so change that out for plexi. that is of course if you are tracking it.
