Default Forum suggestion - no offense meant... ;)

Just curious, but why not split up each individual car into:
"general tech/maintenance" & a separate "performance tech."
Those interested in performance could then pay more attention to the complex performance questions and debates that tend to take place in a "performance forum" while the average Joe who wants to inquire about oil changes & basic brake pad replacement questions in the more basic "general tech/maintenance" forum...

My gripe is that having one "lump-sum" general maintenance tech forum here gets a bit confusing (blending all the different makes/models into one forum) at times. Again, no offense meant by this, it is just my opinion. See, I do not wish to flood the existing performance forums on our board with the more bland basic/general tech questions that I'm sure many of the performance forum regulars have seen one too many times.

For example, I think it would be a great idea to have it set up so that we have:

"Hyundai Tiburon general tech AND maintenance" forum & "Hyundai Tiburon performance tech" forum. Same for the Elantras & other models...

Has this been tried in the past? What do the mods or others think? Just trying to see if this was feasible or not...thx.

In theory it is a good idea. the problem is that you will create too many forums. You don't want people to strat getting confused with too many forums.

Yeah, I admit that is the biggest drawback to dividing up the forums that way. Did the HP forums use that method at first though?

That wouldn't work.

For example, the Elantra and Tiburon share the Beta engine. The Tiburon, Santa Fe and Sonata share the Delta. The Accent has the Alpha but people swap the Beta in. Why should they have to wade through 4 or 5 different forums that all contain discussions on the same engine?

The model-specific forums are for model-specific questions. The tech-specific forums are for tech-specific questions .

Aha! That makes much more sense now; I had no idea those models shared the same motors. heh...guess that's a pretty important factor to consider, so nevermind! LOL

<------still learning about the Hyundais, don't mind me.
