I don't know how much it will take or if it's worth having at this point in time, but in the AIM Hyundai Chat rooms there are numerous people from this website. In order to get people more involved and interacting in the hyundai community, maybe we could implement an open chat room where there are no restrictions or moderating (as it occurs in the Hyundai chats on AIM). Having it located on the best Hyundai tuning site out there would hopefully bring more return visitors to this website as opposed to others (hyundaiaftermarket, SR, KORE etc.). My idea came from a Gaming Organization I used to be highly affiliated with and who I still remain in contact with. An example is posted at their website (click Syn-Chat on the navigation bar)
The chat room may not be a popular idea for the members of this website, so before considering it, I suggest implementing a poll on the homepage or forums (or posting a notice in the forums to check the homepage) asking if people would make use of the chat if it were implemented into the website. Just trying to keep the suggestions coming. I was thinking this could be a long term project/goal after everything else is finalized.

I only looked over the source code for the website really quickly because I was off to class when I posted the suggestion, and I'm between classes right now, but it seems to be completely Flash based. I don't know if it's possible to do it in flash, so I may be completely wrong, but from what little HTML I looked through, that's what it seemed to be. I will speak with the webmaster of the website and find out how they were able to get it, because I know they were looking for a free way to do it.

Very cool. Thanks.
I know it's possible in Flash because I've learned how before, I just haven't had the time to actually do it.

Why don't you guys just find an IRC server? They are free, and then create your chatroom there, and everyone can use mIRC to get to the chatroom. (This will save on bandwidth costs, and keep the site runnin faster)

Bandwidth costs aren't a concern. We get free bandwidth.
As for mIRC, a lot of people don't know how to use it and would rather just used a simple web-based chat room.

set up an IRC server on HP, i can do it, very easily
then configure an IRC chat client through here (flash, java, whatever), and set up links to various IRC chat clients, so people can have the choice of using something like mIRC, pirch, BitchX, Snak, Ircle (depending on platform, etc) OR they could use our embedded client.
that or just do a simple chat room in PHP.
the IRC idea i have seen used before and have set up similar on other sites, mostly bsd related in the past, and is pretty darn easy.
nyne most irc clients have a registration fee. I looked this up a while ago for a friend of mine. We came to the conclution that the java based was the best but it seemed to lack in terms of speed.
I self programmed client would be the way to go but you def will need to set up some sort of chat server on HP which as you pointed out in no big deal.
Have a look here http://cgi.resourceindex.com/Programs_and_Scripts/Perl/Chat/
http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Chat_Scripts/more4.html
mIRC has a registration fee, -but- the software isn't disabled after a certain amount of time or anything.
having dual interfaces would appeal to both crowds
the chat room would have a front end that interfaced with an IRC server (which is free) and the beginner/novice user could use the web front end, and the power user could opt to actually use the IRC client, and so forth.
IMHO this sort of flexibility would appeal to both crowds.
