Default just a few??

I was wondering bout a few things. I have a 2000 sonata gls 2.5 v-6 and am looking to make my cheap little car into something more. Personally I am a bowtie man but I needed a cheaper car and I have three kids to boot. So here it is
1. I hear people speaking bout removing their factory resonators, where are they and how big a job is it to take them out? With those out is it easier to put in a CAI kit? Does that help much either?
2. I see these kids running around with coffee-can exhaust. Does that really help you out or is it just for show? I looked under my car and saw the factory muffler.....its frickn huge and the outlet is tiny so that cant be good for the power!! Plus there is a few other things under there also.
hope this is not too many questions
thanks

its freaking crazy and they are real heavy

When you install a CAI you will have yo remove the resonator anyways. It is the chambered part before the air box.

Swapping out the muffler would just be looks but adding a full catback exhaust should give you some decent gains.

there's a difference between the exhaust system and an exhaust tip. having an aftermarket exhaust system, such as a full catback system, is very good. a coffee can tip with stock muffler makes u look very stoopid. just my 2 cents...

ok
how hard is it to take the air box out?
what if i took all of the exhaust from the cat back out and branched it to dual straight pipes???? i had a SHO and i did that very thing when i snapped off the original muffler while power shifting. it was cheaper to put straight pipes on than it was to replace the 180 dollar muffler!!! it seemed to make ALOT more noise and help the power i think, it was hard to tell with it being so hot to begin with. LOL

oh by the way....how do i message this smiley guy?
thanks to all that have helped me gain more insight in my car and how to improve
