Default Replace AIR Box Hesitation

My 2002 Sonata has the 2.4L 4cyl and when i replaced the stock air box with a cone filter it lost power and would hesitate off the line. I even tried making the distance from the filter to the Mass Air Flow sensor greater because i was told it makes turbulence in the sensor and it still didn;t work. I want to know what is wrong???

Did you reset the ECU, (computer), by disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes? That might be your problem. uzzled:

Default Re: Replace AIR Box Hesitation

It is a heat problem. When you open the throttle the engine has to get large amounts of air at that single time, so the air it does get is heated and thus doesnt allow full sparking. As your speed increases, cooler is air is routed through the radiator and your car should act normal. Your airbox filter is isolated from the ambient heat in your hood, so the air in your piping is cooler. And it would be a good idea to reset your ECU, because the other problem is that your Air/Fuel ratio is off balance(more air than the the engine is supplying gas) so it will bog down and hesitate. So basically the filter needs to be as far away from the engine as possible. Hope this helps
