I have been looking around and I notice that there is nothing out there for an XG, so I was wondering if any of you guys know if I can pull off an engine swap. Do you guys think I can fit the centennial 4.5 V8 in place of my 3.5 V6? I dont wanna go custom turbo yet since I wanna figure out all my options first. Turbo may be cheaper then a brand new engine, but then the brand new engine will be under warranty since it is also from hyundai.
the brand new engine that you put in wont be under warranty from hyundai
it is actually illegal to do motorswaps in some states if not all
New York it IS illegal to do motorswaps on your car, you wont pass inspection.
Unless the V8 goes into that car which i'm not sure of. and since its not available here, you can't get away with it
i would look into the turbo set-up
maybe somebody on this site knows the capability of the 3.5L xg motor
i'm guessing it can hold mild boost stock

Yeah, but if you put a turbo, supercharger, or nos on your engine, you're still going to void the warranty. If you want to make more power, go n/a like I am. You won't make as much power as the other with the same amount of money, but you will be able to keep your warranty. :smoking:
Oh yea I live in NY, but my car is registered in South carolina since my aunt lives there. The reason I got my car in SC is cause they dont do inspections there, but thanx for letting me know the info about the engine swaps being illegal. But do you think the V8 can fit in the XG? Im holding back on putting a turbo in since I dont wanna put in a turbo and then mess up the engine. If I get the V8 I can still resell the 3.5 and get some money back.
I don't like coming in to say this sort of thing much, because i know that you all want to enjoy modifying your own car, and not everyone has the money to do what i did with my sonata. I will tell you though, that from my own experience, spending money on the original sonata motor isn't going to get you anywhere, at best, you would be getting high 15's. In Australia, nitrous is illegal for use on a street road, and i'm sure that if you got down to the technicalities, you would find that it is illegal for road use in the majority of usa states too. I have always said that if you're going to swap a motor into your car, you might as well get a turbocharged one from standard. all of us have the option of a 4G63t, whether it be vr4/eclipse/evo 1,2,3 for the 88-97 sonatas, or the evo 4,5,6,7,8 for the 98 + sonatas. It such a better platform to begin with, which will at the very least get you doing flat 15's standard. take the time to check the history, or search for 4G63T swaps using the search button to see some of my and turbo_hyundai's prior posts.
The XG350 stock runs mid 16's I believe. If only we had some tuners from korea here who can help me out, since the XG is still pretty new to the US and no one really tunes this car. Forced induction tends to break things if your not careful, so I rather do the engine drop. hehe I'll probrably be the first since more people with the XG are old.
Have any of you guys considered the 6g72tt engine (3000GT VR-4) as a swap for the sonata/XG? this is a OEM with stock twin turbo. since hyundai has a history of working with mitsubishi anyways, i thought it could be a possibility. the only potential problems i would see is different mounting brackets and a definite upgrade in transmission. otherwise, the engine should not have a problem fitting.
