WHY in the world do you want to get rid of the rev limiter? Do you want to rebuild your engine?

It might be a cutout feeling around 6000rpms, correct(seeing as you have a V6, it's 7000 for 4 cyl)? The tach needle will bounce off the redline. This limiter is there to protect the internals of your engine as well as the transmission. Without it, someone full-throttling it would go over 6000 rpms and shoot a piston out of the oil pan. Please do not take the limiter out, I'd hate to see a nice V6 go like that!

i think he just wants more power and has no idea what the heck hes talking about.

just get some bolt-on mods like a cold air intake or exhaust.

if you just want to magically 'remove the rev limiter' and get more power for free then youre in for a huge disappointment.

I found out about mine last winter... I was going up a really steep snow covered hill and I didn't want to let off the gas in fear of getting stuck, and my wheels were spinning and the car was barely moving...soon as I hit around 6000RPM everything shut down. It scared the hell out of me...lol I asked the dealer they confirmed what I thought it was..a rev limiter.

Well since you have an auto there is a way to override the limiter, but you'll soon hit a second limiter. If you just put the car in drive you will be switching gears around 5750 rpms right before redline. Now if you switch the gears yourself with that auto by moving the gear selector L,2,D(3rd),O/D(that button on the side of the shifter is 4th gear), you can acutally pass redline until you hit about 7250 rpm. I know because I did it when I had my 97 GL V6. But becareful! The way the engine felt when it got that high didn't feel pleasing at all! The engine starts to sound really course and loose its smoothness after it enters redline.

in most cases you're better off shifting before red line.... for instance with my lil fundai my peak power isn't at 6.5k rpm(redline), but its more like 3.5 - 5, so shifting around 5-5.5 is more effective. I dont know though, maybe sonota's are a lot different.

uzzled: If you have the skills, the know-how, the funds and the wherewithall to rebuild a Sonata engine from the ground up, then you should already know the pitfalls of removing the rev limiter and/or how to go about doing so.

BTW, what dp you have planned.

Plus none of Hyundai's engines make any more power after redline. So the best point is to shift before redline so you can stay within you power band. If you powerband is lower than shift a little before you normally would. There is really no point in going past redline. Plust like I said the engine starts to sound shitty and doesn't have that sweet purr like it normally does. Trust me I ran my Sonata through everthing from 0-60 - making out revs to the fullest, etc...
