Default Side air bags?

I have a 2003 Sonata. I want to remove my door panels, but I have side air impact bags. Do I have to do anything before removing the door panels? I don't want the air bag to go off on me. thanks.

If the new Sonata is at all like the XG, then its side-impact airbags are built into the front seats, not the door frame. How the car detects a side-impact and deploys the airbag may depend on sensors in the door, but from what I've seen you will not come into contact with any of that if you're removing the door panels. I've removed all my door panels to add sound dampening and upgrade the speakers. Other than disconnecting the wire harnesses for the power windows, locks, and courtesy lights at the base of the doors, you should not come into contact with any wires or electrical components.

any way, if u disconnect the battery and wait a couple minutes, the air bags will not deploy.

Yeah be sure to disconnect your battery and wait a good 10 minutes before you go unconnecting the airbag connectors under your seat if you have to move your seats to route wires etc... Odd's are even if you didn't do that nothing would happen.. but better to be safe that sorry!

It would be a said thing to have one go off accidently!

As Kagemusha said..they are located in the side of the front seats. You won't have to worry at all about the airbag going off.
