Default 1997 Sonata V6 30L Turbo

Has anyone put a turbo in a 1997 V6 Sonata. I want to do it but i would'nt mind getting some tips first. Do Hyundai make a genuine turbo for these cars???

no, hyundai does not make a turbo for one. it would most likely be easiest to swap in a naturally aspirated DOHC 3000GT 6g72, since it's 222 hp out of the box, and 10:1 compression. the stock sonata 3.0L is only 8.9:1, SOHC, and is basically a detuned, economy version of the 6g72 engine, so it woulnd't be the best idea to try to boost it...

i might get around to putting the 6g72de in my car, but i'm lazy, so it'll probably never happen...

wouldn't the lowe compression be beneficial in a turbo setup?

Maybe...

But it depends on the inherent design of the piston and its material.

I remember when I wanted to do the swap..but I don't have my Sonata anymore. What you could do though is try contacting RPW. They use to carry turbo kits for the Sonata with all the necessary equipment. They also had upgrades to go NA. I have not been to their site in a while, but last time I was there it seemed they drop the whole Hyundai line except the Tiburon. Like I said, you could try contacting them and see if they could hook you up. www.rpw.co.au
