Default Alternate Steering wheel question

Well I went to the service desk today to make an appointment, car got a dent and a ding while waiting for me to pick it up from the dealer so i'm making them fix it. Anyway while I was waiting I took a look at the Hyundai parts book and noticed that they have an alternate steering wheel for the 04 Sonata. Instaed of the whole thing being leather, parts of it have the same wood trim like the rest of the car. I was wondering if anyone here had this and if so how much did it run them?

Some people have made the conversion. I think it cost around $200-$300. It is nice..but not that to me is kind of steep just to look good. But it just cost so much because of the damn airbag inside of it. Plus...unless you know how to swap out a steering wheel and have all the right tools (it is a pain in the fucking ass)...then you going to have to pay the dealer to do it.

I actually just found the price from my dealer, $450 plus installation. All my tools are GM specific, Last job was in a chevrolet dealership, one qualification away from master mechanic before I decided to take a different route.

Yes it looks nice, no it's not worth that money lol.

Yeah..definatly not worth the money. It is so expensive because of the damn airbag. To bad you can't swap out the bag. Good thing you know your stuff when it comes to cars...helps you out a lot when you want to modify your own car. And steering wheels..those can be bitchy...ecspecially when you have to disconnect several SRS clips and fuses.

That's exactly it, unless you know what to do you run a risk of setting off an airbag. When I was in the shop, new kid, 120lbs soaking wet, doing something or other, airbag went off and blew him into the backseat.

Also it's a psychological thing. I could do it no problem, take awhile but I could definately do it, however, I don't want to rip apart my brand new car and risk cracking or scuffing something lol

that's why i disconnect the battery when working around the steering column and let it sit for a minute, as well as stay away from the yellow loom. either way, have fun with dreaming up more mods!
