Default Anyone tried Reduced Instensity Daytime Running Lights?

I've been thinking for a while that reduced instensity daytime running lights for the H1 bulbs in the XG and the Sonata (or even Tib for that matter) would be fun and not too hard a modification.

In one respect it's a safety thing, but it also just looks cool IMO. I saw it on several Hyundais in Korea, but am not sure if it's aftermarket or stock there.

Here you see it on the Lexus (like below) and MB and others. There are kits for them out there...anyone done it or thought about it?

that's something that the XD And teh GK Has..but i'm suprised and dissapointed that my Beloved XG Doesn't Have em,

It doe's have a Hole like it was meant to hook up a wedge bulb inlet in the headlight unit,

That's cool that the GK Tib has it...my sister-in-law has an RD and they don't have them so I assumed all Tibs didn't. I must be an idiot...but what model is the XD?

I also noticed it appears there's an area where a wedge bulb was intended to go into the H1 headlamp, or maybe that's intended for something else entirely different. You could get creative with wiretapping into a remote ignition wire and a power line to light such bulbs there, but that's biting off a little too much for my tastes (I know, I'm lame when it comes to mods...other members here are talking about dropping in new engines and I'm afraid to mess with wiring.)

Anyways, I'm thinking I might look around for a kit. That and getting an aftermarket deck that's iPod compatible are my next 'projects.' Once you have an iPod you want to take it everywhere I like the Pioneer FH-P5000MP; it's a double DIN and IP-bus compatible so I can also get their new iPod converter. It's black w/ brushed aluminum so it would hopefully accent the shift gate brushed aluminum look and the stock black dash components. I think the armrest console between the front seats is the perfect place to run the wiring and mount the iPod.

I'll answer my own question: Looking to see if there was a spoiler for the XG on Mobis' website I saw the XD is the Avante XD = Elantra. Which begs the question, assuming Tak82 is right, why in the world does the Elantra and Tib get daytime running lights of this sort and the XG or Sonota at equal and higher entry prices don't? :ermm:

Just like their judicious choice of options for the North American Sonata NF compared to the plethora of great options in Korea...what gives? Some of Hyundai's choices don't make sense to me. I need to get a job in their strategic marketing department and make some changes!

I hear ya..I thought The XG Would Make an example of all the feature's hyundai has to offer on their car's

But I guess Hyundai decided not to put wedge Bulb DRL's on an already pricy XG,
But now that you brought this interesting matter up onto us XG Owner's... Kage,

I'm more than eager to see if the KDM XG's have the Little wedge bulb fixture's on their headlights,

I'm also suspicious of the reflector dome's of the Tiburon,XD and the XG Are The Same,

Hyundai might have used the same Chrome Light reflector Dome on the XG,XD And The GK To Save Costs,

just custom install a 194 wedge bulb. the GKs and the KDM lights for my sonata have them built-in, they work well.

Hey djnogo, would you mind taking/posting some pics (or directing me to some pics if they're already posted) of your KDM headlamps with the wedge bulb? I'm specifically interested in where the wedge bulb is wired in. I assume it would be some constant power supply that is on whenever the car is turned on.

i don't have any pics of them where you can tell where they are, but they came with the 194 bulb already installed, just not wired. i wired them myself to the turn signal's parking light, so they come on with my parking lights.
