Default XG300 Cylinder 2 misfire and fuel stepper motor malfunction

Looking for Help. My XG300 has a Cylinder 2 misfire and something called a stepper motor malfunction. Has anyone experienced this type of problem before. Or even know what a Stepper motor Malfunction is?

I am assuming the Cylinder 2 can be resovlved with a spark plug or wire replacement. However Cylinder 2 seems to be in the back of the engine and under the manifold. Has anyone changed all 6 plugs or wires before, and how easy/hard was it?

The car idles rough and hesitates when accelerating. It often, but not every time, "Jumps" when accelerating between gears.

Thanks for the help.

I have had my XG300 since may of 2000 and last year I had a similar problem and it turned out that the 2 coils had to be changed. Apprently there are 3 ignition coils on this vehicle and I had to change 2 of them. It did fix the problem. It was done a the dealer.

By the way all dealers are not the same I went to 3 of them for the analysis. They all found the same problem on their computer but the pricing was different. Not for the parts but the overall charge.

I hope that this will help.

Good Luck.

I talked to a few dealers and they said the problem with the Cylinder 2 misfire is probably a bad spark plug. They suggest replacing the Spark Plugs and Wires. Then they told me that the total cost with labor is an average of $460.00 + tax. I never heard of anyone having to pay $460.00 to change the plugs and wires.

It seems the engine is poorly engineered where it takes 3+ hours of labor to change the plugs because of the location of the back 3 plugs. Needless to say this is an outrageous amount for something that is on the maintance schedule.

Has anyone tried to change the plugs?

yes i have changed the plugs on a V6..and it ain't hard at all..I have had a more hard time doing that on my caravan.

The XG Should come with platinum tippd plug's as OEM Equipment,

Just pull the wires out, get a socket Set with an extention and a needlenose plier to pull the plug out once loosened

It's easier to spend a few dollar's for some New plug's and some elbow grease rather than the dealership trying to Take all your money when it come's to minor repair's like that
