2002 Sonata - problem filling gas tank

A friend of mine has a 2002 Sonata V6. She says when she goes to fill the tank, the pump will repeatedly click off while she's filling up, as if the tank was already full.

Any other Sonata owners have this problem?

She says it happens no matter where she fills up, and no matter who's doing the filling.

I take it this isn't a widespread problem? *crickets*

Unless she's put 100k miles on it, it should be under warranty. This most likely isn't something you can just fix by tightening a bolt, I bet a part needs to be replaced. Have her take it in to be diagnosed/fixed under warranty.

I get this everyonce and a while when I am filling my car. It seems like if I just play with the angle of the nozzle it solves the problem and it goes in fine.

Just pull the nozzel out about an inch or so. Works every time.

that happens all the time for me, so you know. i have a 97 tib. I think its a hyundai problem , cause i think it happens w/ my wifes elantra. I figure its how its angled, and how the pumps sensor reads..yada yada...
tell her she has to find the right sort of angle to hold the pump. lol then gently rub it..lol..
seriously, she needs to find the right type of angle. i kinda lift up a bit so the nozzle points down a bit more.. but not too hard where i feel i can cause a dent inside it or something.. i just think its how its angle. too drastic or something. theres a safety-type sensor or something, I think, so if the pumps not in a filler or tank it doesnt pump. i cant imagine being able to just point it at someone and spray them w/gas..lol... but then i dont know. i never pulled that gas pump trigger if it wasnt in the filler. lol maybe gas will spray everywhere..
