Default Tranny problems?

I have an 06 sonata v-6 and to me it seems like it takes way to long to shift when i slam the gas to the floor. i also have noticed it very rarely shifts into 1st. I have pulled out of my apt. complex on to a busy street and I almost every time get hit cause it doesn't shift into 1st gear? Is this normal? trying to manualy shift it takes just as long. any ideas?

Probibly the computer for the transmission. Computer probibly thinks it will get maximum acceleration by avoiding unessicary shifts. My mothers elantra does the same thing I will floor it and will remain in 2nd gear it is brutally slow in second gear at 30 miles an hour. Try resetting the computer, by unpluging the battery for a moment.

I think its trying to protect itself. My wifes mazda is the most downshift happy auto I've ever driven. If its above 20mph it will not go back into 1st. Even if it can hold it until 35-36mph.

The programming of the TCM prevents unnecessary downshifting when you are moving. It is supposed to do that.

The V6 5 speed auto generally starts out in 2nd gear unless you floor it from a stand still, or going under 10 mph.

Mercedes also does the same thing. They start out in 2nd gear unless the gas pedal is pushed more than 2/3 the way down from a stop or WOT at 10 mph.

I have the same issue with this. Coming out of a EZPASS toll I get my a#$ kicked by car that shouldn’t be able to.. I floor it but it takes 50 feet before it will downshift. VERY annoying… Give me 4 speed auto with a taller 1st gear…. That low 1st gear may give you a better ¼ mile and 0-60mph, but in the real world it makes the rolling start pitiful! 0-60mph is 6.8sec I would bet the 10-60mph it around 9sec…

BTW: I love everything else about the car.

Are there programmers available that can change the shift patterns?

The manual shift if you can call it that is pathetic! If you let the car auto shift omg make sure your not in a intersection! Short version I screwed up and at a stop sign I pulled out while rolling and a car was coming. Well after dead in the water for about 3 seconds of engine reved up it still didnt complete the shift until I got to the other side of the intersection. That really is unaceptable! Granted I made the mistake but the power should have been there! Atleast the car wasn't nearly as close as I thought it was. So far they have replaced my cars computer, the trottle pedal sensor, the transmission... Lets say the first year I had my 06 LX it was at the dealership more then my house. Long story short the trans is crap! They want to replace it again but enough is enough its the design.
