opinions on possible purchase: 2002 sonata 4 cyl
Hey guys. im from the VW world but my girlfriend is in the market for a car right now. she had some pretty strict/limiting criteria:
5 thousand dollar max price
under 80k miles
manual transmission
newer then '98 model
non-domestic
so, naturally, i began looking at hyundais for her. the combination of improved build quality/reliability and HORRID resale values made for a solid choice. so after looking around, i have found what i think is a very good deal. it is a 2002 hyundai sonata 4 cylinder with power everything and 5 speed manual transmission.
what do you guys think of this car? it has 58,000 miles and the asking price is 5k even. the carfax checks out and the title is clear.
now i understand this car will be far from fast, but does it have enough power? she would like some decent passing power for the highway and the ability to maintain speed.
also, how does this car handle?
she is coming from a 97 ford escort sedan with 4 speed automatic and 111k miles. i just hope this car is a vast improvement over that pile.
also, whats the deal with timing belts on these cars? must it be replace at 60k miles like on some other vehicles?
sorry for so many questions but im new to the hyundai scene and just wanna make sure my girlfriend will love her first "new" car.
