Hi all, I was involved in an accident this week with my brand new 91 Sonata (new to me anyway) where a woman went through a red and hit me as I was turning, the Passenger Side Door is totalled but thankfully the impact was above the frame below the trim and inbetween the side doorframe and the fenderwall, even the paint on them is find but the door is royally fuk'd. Im wondering how much labour is involved removing the old door and installing a new one in its place. I found a replacement allready for $250CDN but Im just wondering what would be a reasonable ammount a body shop would charge to do this. Because I did not call the OPP when it happened and rather then when I got home its going to be 50/50 so were paying for the repairs ourselves because id be cheaper then paying the deductable.
Id appreciate any feedback any of you have either reply or email me @ dansaddy@hotmail.com with some insight.
Thanks

try to find one in a junkyard, one who's already painted. I bought one for 40 cnd$ already painted...
Where do you live?
it need about 1hour to change. It's longer to adjust than to install...

I live in Windsor Ontario, most of them are linked up via computer and the only yard I found even remotly close to my house (less then 1 hour away) quoted me $250.
He said it was a 89-94 Passenger Front door off the base model, he said to move the trim off my existing door and move it onto the new one.
I have never seen a Sonata in my life before I bought mine, I saw Tom's 4G63 on the club DSM site but never in real life. I dont think they had a big following down in here at Canada's Automotive Capital.

Doesnt quite work like that here since it would be my word against hers. Its cheaper to pay for it ourselves because my deductable is $500 + the jacked up rates.
Right now I pay $107/CDN month to drive the Sonata, if this goes 50/50 fault like it probally will itll be around $180+/month easily so im better off not making a claim.

The same thing happened to me back then during the time I had a 4runner. When the cops came there was some witnesses who saw the stupid teen who probrably just got his license run the red and slamed into me. Hehe his parents must have been pissed when they had to pay for my car. I had a police report and witnesses to back it up. Then again its also the city so there are always nosy people around to see accidents.<img src=/images/forums/snitz/smile.gif width=15 height=15 border=0>
It wasnt like car was totalled, broken glass everywhere. Basically she hit me backed up (she had enough to back up all the way behind the line with about a car length inbetween her and the car behind her) engine didnt die at all so we both pulled off and went onto the side of the side road.
We didnt call the cops because i didnt think we had to, thought we had 24hours to call them. Since it was technically on a highway (the dammed dividing line of the municipalities) I needed to call the OPP.
No one pulled off with us, the street where it happened is a super high traffic intersection (T shaped actualy), 3 lanes each way that links the Can/US tunnel to the 401. The street i was going to turn at wasnt small either, its 5 lanes wide (1 right, 2 left and 1 for people to turn from the opposite side and one to turn directly into the street which merges with the other entry lane 100m down the road.
I dont think ill find a door here for any less then 250 quite honestly
